Catherine trained at Elmhurst Ballet School and the Royal Ballet Upper School and became a professional Ballet dancer with Dusseldorf Ballet and English National Ballet. A back injury forced her to finish her career and she then went on to a number of different jobs including Cabin crew, an event manager for a children’s charity and a Journalist for a Yoga magazine. Whilst out in Beijing teaching English as a foreign language she set up a Ballet School and completed the Professional Dancers Teaching Diploma with the Royal Academy of Dance gaining a Distinction. She then returned to London and worked at various Ballet Schools in London before setting up Butterfly Ballet in 2012.
Vanessa is a highly experienced ballet teacher having taught in many schools in and around London since graduating from the BA(Hons) ‘Ballet Education’ Degree at the Royal Academy of Dance in 2009. Vanessa is a happy, energetic and dedicated teacher who loves instilling the joy, creativity and excitement of dance in each and every student she meets. Having taught ballet to wide range of students from tiny tots just beginning their ballet journey through to highly experienced Vocational students with promising career prospects, through to adult dancers re-awakening their love of ballet, Vanessa thoroughly enjoys helping to bring out the best in all of her students. As well as teaching for Butterfly Ballet, Vanessa is also currently part of the RAD Dance School faculty on Saturdays as well as Head of Ballet at a preparatory school in Buckinghamshire.
Kathryn grew up in Manchester and attended dance classes from an early age, completing both graded and vocational exams. After gaining her degree at Royal Holloway, University of London and realising her love of teaching, Kathryn then went on to train at the Royal Academy of Dance for two years, completing the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies course and gaining RAD Registered Teaching Status. She also qualified as a 'Progressing Ballet Technique' Teacher, a revolutionary training programme which is implemented within our classes from Grade One onwards. She is now a freelance classical ballet teacher for numerous dance studios around London and teaches at our Clapham, Putney and Wimbledon sites, whilst also occasionally coaching in Barnes, maintaining an excellent exam result record with all of her students.
Originally from East Sussex, she studied at the Legat School, before joining Ballet West in the Scottish Highlands for the remainder of her training. In 2004 she joined Ballet West as a soloist dancer and teacher in their touring company. Her dance career then took her to London where she danced professionally with companies like Birmingham rep the Royal Opera House, Welsh Ballet, Glyndebourne, Gandini Juggling and many more. Alongside her self employed dance contracts she has been lucky to teach for various Ballet schools around London.
